How do you describe your Peer Supervision practice?
Fundamentally, I stand by the core value that nothing about us, is without us. I believe in the value of the relationship and getting to know the person as well as their practice. My preferred way of working is to encourage the individual to finding their own solutions and realisations; and to become open to learning different perspectives and practices.
Rather than using a fixed methodology, I often flex between different supervision styles depending on the subject matter, and what you need. I will sometimes challenge you, I will sometimes push boundaries, I will certainly name an elephant in the room, and I am likely to give you something to work on between sessions, and I will always respect you.
Sessions can include the use of spoon theory, fiddle toys, drawing, and supporting your creativity. Proudly I listen well, am open to passing on what I might know, and want you to be the best you can.
What information regarding your Peer Work, Lived Experience, and/or areas of interest do you want Peer Workers to know?
Predominantly coming from the consumer lived experience, For over 22 years as an advocate, locally and nationally. The history of the movement, structures and processes, rights, alongside my experience in policy, governance, and genuine lived experience engagement and leadership; are my passions.
Growing up in a small country town, I understand the challenges in rural and remote locations. I ‘get’ stigma and discrimination, alienation, isolation and disempowerment. My experience goes across government services, NGO’s and in the private sector.
Personally, my recovery has been colourfully chaotic, and I have experienced a diverse range of challenges, and have, as all of us do, many stories to tell.
