Supporting Psychedelic Safety

Australia is the only country in the world where psychedelic drugs can be prescribed alongside psychotherapy as a medicine. This represents a shifting recognition of the healing potential of psychedelics; something that indigenous cultures have known and that Western society has begun to discover. Despite the possession and use of psychedelic drugs remaining illegal in non-clinical settings, more and more members of our community are seeking 'underground' psychedelics for healing, yet stigma remains a heavy burden and often prevents them from seeking wrap-around support.

It's important that, as a community, we have the knowledge and skills to discuss psychedelics without perpetuating shame and isolation. It's important we stay curious about why someone wants to use, or has used, psychedelics and welcome both transformative and challenging experiences with compassion and a desire to understand.

By the end of this presentation, you'll know...

  • how history has contributed to stigma

  • the truth behind common myths

  • how psychedelics work

  • the importance of 'set' and 'setting' and how they influence safety

  • why peer skills are perfect for supporting someone who has used, or is going to use, psychedelics

  • the answers to your individual questions
