Presentation: ECU's The Living Room
Date: Tuesday 20th January
Time: 10:30am - 12:30pm
Joining us for the first WAPSN online meeting of 2026 is Dawn Reid, Coordinator of The Living Room at Edith Cowan University, Joondalup Campus.
The Living Room is a tertiary mental health and wellbeing led by an amazing Peer Support Advisor (PSA) team.
Bringing lived experience of both being a student and life events, empathy, and relatability, the Living Room and their team create a low-barrier environment where students (and staff) feel safe, understood, and supported.
Some of the spaces and initiatives The Living Room have developed include:
The Living Room Café – a welcoming space that fosters belonging and connection, where conversations over coffee or tea can be the first step toward recovery.
Our Community Garden – a therapeutic environment promoting mindfulness, sustainability, and social interaction. It also gives students a sense of purpose and pride as they nurture something that grows because of them.
Through these initiatives, and the leadership of their peer workforce, The Living Room aim to reduce isolation, build resilience, and empower individuals to take an active role in their academic and mental health journey.
